Programme 2008
Spring Gala Concert
Organ Recital by Dr. Richard Fenwick
Born in Cardiff, Dr. Richard Fenwick is now Dean of St. Woolos. After studying at Lampeter and then Cambridge, he was ordained in 1968.
He specialised in Music and Liturgy with a degree in Music at Trinity College Dublin.
He will be playing a varied and stimulating programme from Bach to a Grand March.
He likes to think that he will be playing a similar programme to those played by the Trevethin organist Charles Pearce FRCO (Fellow of the Royal College of Organists) during his period as organist at Trevethin Church, 1912 to 1958.
Dr. Fenwick has played throughout the world on such organs as Sydney Opera house, and those in America and Finland, Germany and many other European countries. He has performed recitals in many of our British Cathedrals.
Blaenavon Ladies Choir
The choir was started in 1974 by Miss Jean Williams (then musical director of the Blaenavon Male voice Choir) Mrs. Mary Stokes has been their accompanist since 1977. They perform charity concerts, which include some as far as Newquay and the Isle of Man. Mr. John Jolley is their present musical director and they will be performing a varied but "lighter " programme.
John Jolley –Musical Director of the Blaenavon Ladies’ Choir, Musical Director of the Côr Meibion Gwent male Choir and Accompanist to the Garndiffaith Gleemen Male Voice Choir.

This concert was a great success and the audience expressed amazment at the high standard and quality of music. The Bleanavon Ladies Choir added a lighter touch, while Daisy showed by her skill that she deserves her place in the National Youth orchestra.
Summer Gala Concert 2008
Lost Music of the Gaels

Turlough Carolan kicked open the door and let the light come blazing in. Perhaps that is as it should be. It is the way of creative people who are tuned to things outside our understanding to show us the way. Carolan unfettered traditional music from the confines of tradition.
He set it free from the Pharisees and purists to become its own creature; to embrace and make a marriage with whatever was worthy and inspiring.
I like to think that if Carolan himself were sitting listening to the music on this CD, he would raise a glass in fond appreciation.

All are welcome to join the Youth Ensemble, ring 01495 757321.
Many ages, colour and creed have been represented and some with disabilities have enjoyed our workshops.
We enjoyed an evening of entertainment with a visiting Swedish Choir enjoying music from both groups. There was a great party afterwards!
