The choir is formed with ladies from within the County Borough of Torfaen they rehearse in the schoolroom of the Congregational Church Griffithstown near Pontypool every Monday evening at 7.00pm.
The choir has a varied repetoire from the classics to music from the shows, they are justly proud of the help they have been able to give, in raising money for various charities local and nationally. Since September 2004 to date they have been able to help raise nearly £2,000.
The choir has toured on the continent, including Malta, France, and Germany as well as touring extensively in the United Kingdom. October 2004 saw the choir in Chester as guests of Chester Ladies Choir helping raise money for a local hall in Port Sunlight. Musical Director - Mr. Lyn Weaver I.H.B.C
Born in Tredegar Gwent, Lyn is very well known in the amateur operatic and drama world of Gwent, a very accomplished actor and singer is a member of Newport Operatic Society and has been awarded a long service medal and bar for his work in Amateur Operatics and Drama by N.O.D.A over 35 years, he also just happens to be a qualified make-up artist for films, TV and of course theatre. Lyn is also Organist at Hope Methodist Church Pontnewydd. Until his appointment last year Lyn had never conducted a ladies choir, his previous choral experience being mixed voices, so far he tells us he is enjoying his time with the ladies.
Accompanist - Kirsten Watson L.T.C.L BEd.Hons.Mus.
Appointed in January 2007.
Deputy Acompanist - Richard Willis.
Over the years Richards has played for a number of Amateur Operatic Societies in Kent and Buckinghamshire as well as more recently here in Gwent. Comparatively new to choir work which he finds more exacting, particularly when it comes to public performances.
