Musical Youth
A project for young people in Torfaen between the ages of 11-25
Lots of people (parents, community, the government) are concerned about health issues that affect young people today. They have been recognised as:
-
smoking
-
alcohol and substance misuse
-
sexual health and teenage pregnancy
-
crime and disorder
-
diet and healthy living
We need to raise awareness of the issues, so we can tell others about them!
We will start by writing songs with various groups of young people around the borough and create a CD full of music , by:
-
finding out what style of music you like
-
finding out what you know about the issues
-
informing you of some health info you may not know
-
creating a track in the style of music you like
-
write lyrics about what you've learnt
-
creating a melody
-
rehearsing the song
-
recording the song
We will also create short films and organise/promote live performances , once we've written the songs. To help us, we will involve activities like drama, video/film, DJing, break-dancing, dancing, sound engineering, recording/ producing and performance skills , to name a few. We also want YOUR ideas to help us do this job!
Many groups of young people around the borough; some groups that are already formed (such as, youth clubs, schools and education), but we'll also hold workshops so that young people like YOU can come along! Along with these groups, we will ask bands and soloists to write songs for us and involve school and community choirs.
Although the project is 4 and a half years long, we plan to have a CD completed by summer 06 , followed by a live performance . At this point, some groups may feel that they would like to move onto something new; we may continue with another group for the task of creating short films. Others may want to continue being involved with the project and also volunteer to help future groups.
