Musical Director
Cwmbrân Male Choir - Musical Director - Sarah W Betty Jones
Sarah was born in Cwmbrân the year Cwmbrân Male Choir was formed and has lived there for most of her life. Early interests in Music were encouraged by her parents with Piano lessons and it wasn't until her teens that Sarah began playing the French Horn which was to become her specialist area for her Music Degree; she graduated from Bath in 1986 with a II/i and proceded to Cardiff to gain her Teaching Certificate.
In 1987, Sarah succeeded in her ambition to become the first female Peripatetic Brass teacher in Gwent, her 'home' county! Sarah's long association with Gwent Music Support Service is ongoing, along with being the Music Co-ordinator for Rougemont School Infants Department, a post she has held for 3 years and thoroughly enjoys.
Sarah has had a rich and varied musical life, with performance experiences at home and abroad, as Horn player and conductor; her broad music teaching experience since 1987 has ranged from teaching 3 - 80 years olds!
But, first and foremost, Sarah is mum to two beautiful children, Alys and David, who despite their tender ages are already showing their musical potential and have already appeared on several occasions as soloists at Choir concerts.
Since her appointment in January 2006, Sarah has thoroughly enjoyed working with Cwmbrân Male Choir, and together they have entertained audiences at home and further afield in Cardiff and Scotland and in October 2006 performed a very successful Annual concert.
Sarah would like to thank the Choir's Deputy M.D., David Davies and accompanist, Heather Wyatt for their continued help and advice, and she would also like to thank 'the gentlemen' for all their hard work in practices and on the concert platform and sincerely hopes that the partnership with Cwmbrân Male Choir will be long and successful.
