Cwmbrân Male Choir - History
Cwmbrân Male Choir was formed in 1964, with many of the original members coming from older choirs in the area. The choir performs regular concerts throughout the country, mostly for deserving charities, and the choir is also a registered charity.
The repertoire of the choir is wide ranging from the serious to the light hearted and includes spirituals, folk songs and choral arrangements of songs from the shows. Cwmbrân Male Choir has sung in many languages including German, Japanese, Latin, Maori (New Zealand), Portugese, Russian, Spanish, Yiddish, and of course in Welsh.
Cwmbrân Male Choir also has often joined in exchange concerts with other choirs, especially the Bad Langenbrucken Male Choir from Germany, together with other musical groups, and has sung at concerts the length and breadth of Britain. The choir has sung at many famous concert venues such as the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, and appeared with many famous artistes including Bryn Terfel, Katherine Jenkins and Helen Field.
The choir has undertaken many tours, including tours to Germany, France, United States of America, Northern Ireland twice, Scotland twice including 2006, Southern Ireland, and Jersey.
In May 2006 the choir returned to Scotand where it performed at concerts in Glasgow and Edinburgh with local Scottish choirs. On St. Patrick's Day, March 2007, the choir will return to Royal Albert Hall in London for a massed male voice choir concert.
The Musical Director is Sarah Jones, and the accompanist is Heather Wyatt, the choir also has a Deputy Musical Director named David Davies.
