Cwmbrân Male Choir - Deputy Musical Director - David Davies
David has been active in the musical world of Brass Bands and Choirs for some seventy years, starting at the tender age of eight with the Treharris Salvation Army Band. In his early days he became a proficient euphonium player, playing with several bands and he is still playing and performing to this present day.
After having spent some years as the Conductor of the Pontypool Lyrian Singers and Pontypool Male Choir, he left the eastern valley to live and work in Mid Glamorgan. During this eleven year period, he became the Musical director of the South Wales Burma Star Choir, and had quite a number of successful overseas tours with them including, Canada, Brittany, Germany and Holland. On several occasions David has conducted the Burma Star Choir, at their reunions at the Royal Albert Hall in the Presence of Her Majesty the Queen, and other members of the Royal Family. He was also the conductor of the Pencoed Choral Society for five years.
On his return to the eastern valley, David joined the Cwmbrân Male Choir and was appointed as their Deputy Conductor. On the departure of their previous Musical Director, David stepped into the breach, and conducted the choir's 30th Annual concert. After an absence of seven years, including some time as Deputy Conductor with Pontypool Male Choir, David returned to Cwmbrân Male Choir, as it's caretaker Musical Director in January 2003. On the appointment of Paul Cook as Musical Director in June 2003, David then accepted the role of Deputy Musical Director.
At the 2003 Annual Concert, in recognition of his outstanding service, David was made a Life Member of Cwmbrân Male Choir.
