Winter warm up Glen yr afon house hotel Usk Saturday 14th January 2006
What a marvellous way to start the New Year. 65 of us including our President George Davies and wife Pat, along with several Friends of the choir, spent a memorable evening together in lovely surroundings.
The meal was excellent, service very good (drinks rather expensive) and the after dinner entertainment was of the usual high calibre.
Music by Mozart (250th anniversary of his birth), Handel and Offenbach, plus some G & S and miscellaneous ditties were the main part of the entertainment.
Also appearing for the first time were two bands, the CBS wind band and the CBS bottle band. Winners of the quiz were Bill Jenkins and Edwina Higgins.

Annual Hog Roast Saturday 24th June 2006
Another splendid evening, well attended by choir and Friends. The food was of the usual high standard, with Sandra and her little friends providing the accompaniments for the hog, followed by a delightful selection of desserts.
The entertainment for the evening was based on the baroque version of the King Singers, namely Don Smith, Damian Lines, Jonathan Williams and Huw Davies. They sang q selection of classical and secular music which was much enjoyed by a spellbound audience!!! Impromptu and random singing followed with Will Jenkins doing his usual grand job of selling raffle tickets. The event raised £270 for choir funds. Well done and thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the evening.
Next event, the winter warm up on Saturday 13th January 2007 at the Glen yr afon hotel in Usk. If you wish to attend this event it will cost you £17.50 for a full hot buffet meal and superb entertainment. Let one of the choir know if you wish to attend

Winter Warmup at Glen yr afon
Saturday 13th January 2007
Yet another social triumph. So many highlights, one doesn't know where to start. The Glen yr afon gave their usual immaculate service providing an excellent meal with excellent service. This year the entertainment took a more active and hands on style, with bellringing from six teams of four ringing a set of eight genuine hand bells, courtesy of Glynnis Pressland. A team of four "completely impartial!" judges (a la Strictly come dancing) chose the winning team and the points each team scored were added to the evening's total. Quizzes galore, both written and musical added to the competitiveness of the evening and the winning team was awarded with superb prizes. Next came the games session with empty bottles and Telly Tubby hugs causing great hilarity and enjoyment, prizes awarded once again to the winners. The evening ended with a line dancing session, enjoyed by all who had the stamina to take part!!!
I have to say the choral entertainment lacked its usual je ne sais quoi but the audience applauded rapturously - perhaps they were relieved they didn't have to take part!!
This evening has been recognised by Sandra Moore as the best yet - who can argue with that! The next WWU is on Saturday 19th January 2008 , same time, same place. I always wish more Friends of the choir would come to enjoy themselves at these events, as they are organised very much with the Friends in mind. So, you have the date, I look forward to seeing you next year.
