Memories of Jersey
Memories of Jersey
by
Mrs Freda York
Cor Meibion Blaenafon are off on tour again.
To Jersey they would venture to sing with sweet refrain.
We only had one ticket, for all of us on bus.
How would we get to checkout, and do it without fuss.
But when we reached the airport, a crocodile we made.
With Graeham striding out in front, he made sure no one strayed.
When Steve went through the checkout- the buzzers roared aloud
His titanium hip had set them off-there gathered quite a crowd (of security men).
It was 3 o'clock in the morning,
When our Wayne he wanted a wee.
But when door did shut tight behind him,
He looked up and said "Where can I be?".
In corridor with door locked behind him,
In his boxers and bare manly chest
He rushed down to reception for porter
I'll leave you to imagine the rest.
On Monday we went to Fort Regent
To see Queens' Jubilee Show
So we all ordered taxi's to take us
Just room numbers they needed to know.
First driver came and started shouting
Room 314 are you here now?
Every one called that very same number
It led to an almighty row.
So driver said to the whole 6o
Just get in a taxi and go.
And in no time at all we had reached there
Settling down to enjoy a good show.
We went down to Jubilee dinner
A delicious cooked meal just for us.
Then John McGraff left the room like a greyhound
Now really what could be the rush.
He was wearing wrong shirt for the concert
Now really that's not good enough
When he came back correctly attired
He was only a bit out of puff.
But the worst was to come some time later
When he wanted to go to the loo.
His pants, he was wearing them backwards
Yes a pickle, so whatwould he do.
Ron Twin stood there in his black dress suit.
A gleaming white shirt on his back.
There's only one thing you might notice
His buttons were all shiny black.
But, don't worry, for when there's a problem
The wives deal with it,-whatever comes.
So Madeline borrowed some Tippex
And painted them all, one by one.
A small group of Intrepid explorers
Went off to find St. Brillards Bay.
But they didn't know when they had reached there
Stayed on bus-which soon whisked them away.
No matter they said we'll catch bus back.
Same number, same route so they thought.
But it took different road all together.
So their quest I'm afraid came to naught.
Now Malcolm and Ros. they decided
To go for a picnic in park.
Bringing memories of when they were courting
It really would be quite a lark.
Our Malcolm he unwrapped his sandwich
And opened his mouth for a bite
When brave seagull did swoop down and take it
Then flew rapidly off out of sight.
Now I know I would not be forgiven
If I failed to say just how I fell.
When the walls of the Church shook and rattled
But on that point we really won't dwell.
Though I would like to point out one factor
If you believe me, or not, that's just fine,
I had NOT spent the time in the concert
Drinking lots of communion wine.
Now I feel I must finish this ditty
Expressing our deep sympathy
For the choir who travelled on water
And are stuck here with you and with me.
We hope that the ferries start sailing
And tomorrow you'll be on your way.
If not, we'll see you in the future
There;s really naught more I can say.
