Re-enactment WW2 SWB

Cyril Gerwyn Jones

We have decided to include this article as one of our members Aaron Evans Great Grandfather was in the SWB and he wanted to join the group to keep his great grandfathers memory alive.

I would like to thank Aaron for all the information and pictures he has submitted to this site cheers mate.

We are going to source some more information about Mr Jones, but here is a basic history of his life.

Cyril first joined the RAF as is shown in the photos above he married his young wife Phillis whilst serving in the RAF.

The then joined the SWB in about 1942/43

In the photos you can see that he is serving in India, Africa and the middle East, so he must have been serving in the 1st Battalion.

He then joined the Territorail Army after the war and settled down to married life and held down a job as a Baker.

Cyril had 3 children

Mr Gerwyn Jones a baker, then a policeman

Victor Jones who is Aaron`s grandfather, who was born pn V-Day, so they

named him Victor for Victory, who was also a baker

Diana who died at 18 years old.

He sent away for his medals in the 1980`s and they came after he died, so he never got to see them. Aaron has since found out that he was entitled to the North Star clasp and so has sent off for this.

In the early 20th Century women used skills learned at home to give voice to their political struggle; in aprons, ribbons and banners they visually propelled their call for universal suffrage to a wider audience.
