The Local Elections

Well can you believe it’s that time once more?
When our prospective local Councillors tread a path to your front door
Proceeded by flyers of their CV and mug shot
Promising their unending help just to improve your lot
Like the forthcoming Olympics every four years there’re seen
With their enthusiastic entourage they are all very keen
To drum up your interest for issues quite remote
They promise you all sorts in order to get your vote
Election Day dawns and the polling stations appear
The reigning councillors cast their vote as their supporters cheer
Then it’s all smiles for the electorate as on the door they stand
Counting the promised votes as they offer a helping hand
When the day is over and the counting has begun
It’s just a matter of time before we all know who has won
Then like magic they all disappear of the face of this earth
To rest on their laurels and dwell on their self worth
outstanding write here Julie remember this poem people
they will be knocking on your door very soon ... Dennis
