Land of My Fathers Poetry Club

The Bush Inn

The Bush Inn is a friendly pub, with pool and darts and bingo,
And very few Welsh speakers, so no need to learn the lingo.

The Upper Cwmbran Temperance League are a bunch of decent folk,
Who meet there on a Sunday night for a bitter, scotch or coke.

There's Chris who'll build your kitchen, and in summer, if not wet,
Will host one of his barbecues, and make a crepe Suzette.

There's Mark who is a teacher, and he's very keen on sailing.
He likes to use his palm top, as his memory is failing !

There's Robbie who's from Glasgow, he's a white-haired canny Scot,
Who's partial to his whisky, and prefers a double shot !

There's K-Nine, who's a long-haired rocker, pool player and poet,
Who's as old as Coronation Street, but doesn't really show it.

There's Mike who comes from Bristol, and he is a rugby player,
For rhyming's sake, I'll say he likes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer !

There's Richard our researcher, who will look up all the answers,
To questions that rollover, to make sure our score advances.

Bob the landlord runs the quiz; the Temperance League do fine,
But their score is often lower, with the absence of K-Nine !

Bob's wife is called Theresa, and she's in a rival team.
And if they win on Sunday, they're like cats who've got the cream !

For those who don't like quizzes, there is always darts or pool.
You can lounge around on sofas; you can sit down on a stool.

The real ale is provided by a brewery in Cwmbran.
I'm sure you'll like Crow Valley, if you're a real C.A.M.R.A. man !

There is a lovely barmaid there, who's also called Teresa.
She's actually quite good at pool, although we like to tease her !

Another person you might see, is a librarian called Sue,
But she might not want to serve you, if your books are overdue !

There are lots of other regulars, like Gareth, Dave and Bryn,
And Keith who plays the games machine, and always wants to win.

So if you're ever in Cwmbran, and have some time to spend.
Then pay a visit to the Bush, it's a pub I'd recommend.
