The Choir is always looking to attract new recruits – young or not so young. You will not require a solo quality voice but must be able to harmonise and sing in tune and have the ability to learn and retain the extensive range of music as (with most choirs) we perform at events without music copies.

As with any other group/establishment there must be commitment to the choir cause. You will be expected (unless work comittments hinder this) to attend practise twice weekly on a Tuesday and Thursday evening at The Busy Bees nursery in Blaenavon between 7.30pm and 9.30pm and perform at the many concerts/events/weddings that the choir undertake every year.

To join the Choir you will need to undergo a voice test ( this is done on a one to one basis with the Musical Director – no one else will be in attendance) so that the MD can place you in the appropriate section. The MD will chart your progress and when he is satisfied that you are ready to sing with the choir and can perform to the high standard that is required you will become a fully fledged chorister.

Although the overwhelming main aim is to blend musically we also nurture the aim to blend sociably and the involvement of all family members is promoted.

The Choir performs in may places all over the country and World from tiny Chapels to Grand Cathedrals and Music Halls and also taking part in music competitions.

What will I achieve with the Choir?

Promotional photo 2Singing with the Blaenavon Male Voice Choir will be an unforgetable experience. The first time you walk onto a stage and sing to an audience after the hard, but enjoyable time learning new music will live with you for the rest of your life.

Speak to the current members, old and new and they will share with you stories of past concerts and trips (many overseas – America, Canada, Spain, France, Norway) and the great “after glows” (thats a pint and a sing song – normally in a local hostelry which always goes down well)

Music copies are provided free of charge and travel to concerts where a bus in involved is also provided free of cost.

This year (2015) the Choir performed at the Cornish International choral competition and came away with the achievement of best British Choir and came 3rd in the International competition.

We are always pleases to welcome choristers of all ages – age is no barrier to singing.

Come along to a practise evening either on a Tuesday or Thursday at The Busy Bees nursery in Blaenavon between 7.30pm and 9.30pm and listen to the choir in practise or contact our secretary:
