History

Why was this group formed

Why was this group formed?

The South Wales Borderers WW2 Reenactment Group was formed in 1996, by myself (Paul Sidney) and Jon.

The reason why we formed it was for several reasons but the main ones was we had been reenacting German and found that there was hardly any allies to battle against. Also we noticed that there was not many British Tommy infantry groups around, no one wanted to be the dirty Normal Tommy soldier who walked into battle with full kit on.

It is sadley the case that the actions of the 2nd Battallion South Wales Borderers has been overlooked by historians and re-enactors alike. It was for this reasonthat the South Wales Borderers WW2 Re-enactment Groupwas formed.

Our first event was Beltring, all we had was a pup tent our uniforms and some good kit for display.

Our next event was the Tank Musuem, Bovington.

As we went to different events and shows we met groups and made many new friends and gathered in new recruits. Our numbers have grown from 2 to 12 people.

Jon decided to leave the group and go and follow another path in reenatment but without him we would not have started the group and we would not have the ideas or standards we follow today,

Its HIS fault we all wear SHOVELs.

I euan my son soon got into reenactmnet even thouh he was to young to battle he was always dreeed up in kit and a activity member in display.

The group of people who are now in the group are dedicated historians who want to keep the memory of the men who fought on D-Day and on throughout Europe alive.

To the brave men who fought we honour you.

We try our best to honour these men by wearing full battling kit.

Our aim is to reenact a normal Tommy soldier who landed on D-Day.

The South Wales Borderers WW2 Reenacment Group are a friendly crowd of people who want to keep the memory of the brave people who fought and died in World War 2.
