Warren Lewis

Warren W Lewis

 

Born in Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital 1946, Warren resided in the Rhymney Valley in his early days before arriving in Pontypool in 1970 where he now lives with his wife Barbara.

 

Educated at Kings College Cardiff he went on to become a Gas Service Engineer with British Gas.

 

Warren, like Richard |has also retired and similarly his hobbies include genealogy and local history.

 

He sits on the Pontypool Local History Society committee, is a member of the Gwent Local History Society and the Gwent Family History Society to which he has written several articles over the years.

 

Warren has also written and published the history of the Pontypool and District Hospital entitled “The Penny Castle”, the profits of which went to Cancer Research UK.

 

As mentioned above he is at present in the proceeds of writing the history of the Co-operative movement in the valley, the profits of which will go to local charities.

Henry Bowers of Wicken (1812-1847)
The death certificate of Henry Bowers, a labourer of Wicken in Cambridgeshire, who died in February 1847, revealed that he died of 'consumption', otherwise known as tuberculosis (or TB) at the age of 35years. He left a widow, Ann and 8 children, the youngest, Eliza being no more than a year old.
