Richard Roynon
Born at the Varteg in 1944 he has lived and worked in the area ever since. Richard is a Decorator by trade and at one time was the Landlord of the Railway Inn, Cwmavon.
He is married to Pauline and has a daughter Lisa and son-in-law James.
Richards hobbies include, local history, genealogy, and he is the Methodist Archivist for Monmouthshire.
Richard played cricket for twenty-five years at Pontnewynydd until he retired several years ago.
He has successfully written a centenary book on the history of Pontnewynydd Cricket Club 100 Not Out.
A book on the history of John Vipond a local coal and iron industrialist has just been completed and is at the printers.
At present, along with Warren Lewis|, he is researching the history of the Co-operative movement in the Eastern Valley of Gwent, and they hope to publish this important book by 2005.
The Cordell Museum at Blaenavon is another organisation that relies on Richard as he serves as one of the Directors of the Museum.
