Ancient Cwmbran & The Cistercians Project
Did you know that Thornhill is one of 7 places across Cwmbran that will benefit from a Heritage Lottery Grant of £48,000? Thornhill has an ancient pilgrim route running through its centre which was the focus of an earlier project Thornhill Through the Wormhole undertaken a number of years ago by local young people. As a result of this earlier project a celebration of Thornhill's history takes place every year for St Derfel's Day on the 5th of April when we celebrate these ancient links with the past.
There are numerous ways to get involved, an event has been organised which will be held on Saturday September 19th at the Community Farm from 2 - 4 pm, where light refreshments and a warm welcome awaits interested residents.
Residents will have the opportunity to meet with the professionals who will be providing guidance on various aspects of the project over the next year. Volunteers are central to the success of this project and will be able to help with site surveys, ecology, digital media, geology, archaeological digs, desk top research, plus much more - equipment and expert support will be provided. So whatever your interest and whatever your skill level please come along to the event.
