Welcome to the Wales Centre for Health
The Wales Centre for Health (WCfH) was established as a Welsh Assembly Sponsored Public Body (ASPB) on 1st April 2005 with the following statutory remit :
-
to develop and maintain arrangements for making information about matters related to the protection and improvement of health available to the public in Wales
-
to undertake and commission research into such matters
-
to contribute to the development and provision of training.
The WCfH aims to fulfil its functions by:
-
acting as an advocate on public health issues
-
engaging with the public and their communities and advising on public health concerns
-
speaking independently on health, free from corporate or economic interest
-
operating in an open and transparent manner.
The vision of the WCfH is one in which we want to see the WCfH "...add value to the work of every organisation with a role to play in health, so that the sum of their contribution to the health and wellbeing of Wales is greater than their individual efforts".
To help achieve this, the WCfH has continued to strive to promote cross-boundary working and has developed and supported a number of national networks in Wales to aid this process. Training and education, combined with developing effective two way communication with the public, are seen as priority issues. We remain of the view that raised awareness will lead to increased participation and engagement in health and well being, and ultimately a higher standard of public health in Wales.
