Eggs: eggs are an excellent source of vitamin B12, are a good source of protein and are rich in vitamins and minerals. They can be a cause of food allergy and there is a risk of salmonella poisoning if they are not cooked thoroughly. Free range eggs taste better than battery farmed ones but true free-range eggs - where the chicken have access to large open spaces and grass - can be difficult to find. The debate over how many eggs it is safe to eat before the cholesterol contained in their yolks become a problem is still raging but somewhere around 4 to 10 a week - taking into consideration hidden sources such as mayonaise and cakes etc - seems to be acceptable providing that you do not already have cholesterol problems.
