The administrative team have an important role within the efficient running of the practice.  They are trained to take essential details sympathetically and in confidence.  You can help them to help you by giving them as much information as necessary, so that they can make the best arrangements possible to suit your needs.  If you need to speak to them in privacy, this can be arranged.

Health Visitors 01495 792375

 

The Health Visitors provide help and advice to families with pre-school children. They will visit each family just after the birth of a child. They also offer advice to families with handicapped children.

 

District Nurses 01495 790346

 

The District Nurses are responsible for providing a nursing service for patients who are chronically sick/physically disabled and housebound.

Community Midwife

The Community Midwife provides ante-natal and post-natal care in accordance with local guidelines. She will also liaise between the patient, GP and the hospital as and when necessary. The Ante-Natal clinic is held every Tuesday between 1:30 – 3:30pm and is run jointly by the community midwife and one of the GPs. 

School Nurse

Linda covers the two primary school in Blaenavon, and Abersychan Comprehensive School. Referrals can be directly to Linda regarding your childs’ general health/growth and development, eg speech, hearing, vision, bed-wetting and bullying etc.

 

A number of other health care professionals work with the practice. These include:

 

Dietician 01873 852091

 

The Dietician visits Carreg Wen Surgery on a Friday morning each month. She is able to give dietary advice in relation to a number of medical conditions, eg diabetes, poor appetite and weight loss, and raised cholesterol. Patients can be referred via their GP.

 

Counsellor

 

Patients can be referred to the counsellor, who holds a weekly session in the Health Centre once a week, via their GP.

 

Physiotherapist 01495 791821

 

A chartered physiotherapist is on site in the Health Centre several mornings per week. The physiotherapist can offer advice and treatments to patients with a variety of conditions, eg muscular and joint problems. Patients are referred via their GP.

 

Community Psychiatric Nurse 01495 765727

 

The CPN is based at Talygarn Mental Health Unit in Pontypool and offers a weekly clinic at the surgery, providing individual support for people experiencing both minor and more serious mental health problems. Patients are referred via their GP.
