An Exhibition to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Cwmbran New Town.
4th November 2019 is the 70th Anniversary of Cwmbran’s designation as a new town. In order to celebrate this milestone a local family history group, TimeBubble is hosting an exhibition in the town centre at 7 The Arcade. The exhibition will be open 6 days a week (Monday – Saturday).
The TimeBubble anniversary project ‘Celebrating 70’ has been co-ordinated by Lynne Howles, Manager of the CoStar Partnership at the Threepenny Bit Community Centre, where TimeBubble meets every month.
The project, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, aims to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Cwmbran New Town through the eyes and experiences of the people who live here. It has involved the production of a book and a website containing stories and memories submitted by local people. The exhibition showcases this information together with photographs taken by local photographers and exhibits on loan from Cwmbran Community Council.
The exhibition also includes an art gallery with the work of artists who attend the art classes at CoStar as well as members of local art group Torfaen Art Factory. The paintings feature local landmarks and places which are important to the artists. Many of the pieces have been specially created for the anniversary of the town.
The launch of the book and exhibition will take place on Saturday 2nd November at 7 The Arcade, Cwmbran and will be opened by Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symonds.
