Torfaen CCET

Torfaen Community Consortia for Education and Training

The introduction of local Community Consortia for Education and Training (CCETs) by the National Assembly for Wales was a recommendation of the Education and Training Action Plan for Wales (March, 1999). Their purpose is to: develop partnerships; raise expectations; promote the integration of provision; and better respond to needs, whilst securing parity of esteem for academic, vocational and workplace training alike.

Torfaen’s Community Consortium for Education and Training is a voluntary local grouping of education and training providers who collaborate in the delivery of provision. It engages with major interests in Torfaen to draw up annual Recommendations to ELWa.

The Consortium builds on the work of an earlier education, training and employer forum, LATETE (Local Authority of Torfaen Education, Training and Employment), formed in 1998. Torfaen CCET’s membership includes:

  • local education authority
  • local authority economic development
  • elected members
  • further education
  • higher education
  • voluntary sector
  • Employment Service
  • training provision
  • employers
  • Careers
  • secondary schools, including Welsh medium
  • trade unions
  • ELWa
  • Welsh Development Agency
  • Torfaen Association of Local Councils

Working to the Consortium are a number of Subgroups dedicated to serving the needs of communities, individuals and employers.
