About Us
Sonic After School Club started in 1999 following a decision by the Torfaen Family Learning Centre Steering Committee Steering Committee to establish a club for local working parents. With encouragement and help from The Early Years and Childcare Partnership and the LEA we successfully applied for start up grant aid from Gwent TEC.
The club started life caring for a single child but soon built up its business to become a successful and thriving facility for New Inn children and those who attend Greenlawn Junior and New inn Infants Schools.
Currently we cater for up to 30 children between the ages of 3 to 11 years and are located in the Family Learning Centre, The Highway, New Inn (the old infants school building).
The Club is staffed by our senior playworker Mrs Christine Caddy who is responsible for day to day operations and the supervision of our two other playworkers Cherie Davies and Julie Kirk. I am the registered person and also act as treasurer and business manager.
In 2002 following requests from parents we started a Breakfast Club at the Family Learning Centre with the aid of a grant from the New Opportunities Fund and in 2005 we opened a Holiday Club in Panteg Public Hall. The Breakfast Club now receives WAG subsidy and making both the breakfast and care free of cost. Unfortunately we have to charge a small fee for escort to school.
Two of our staff are fully trained to CACHE NVQ Diploma Level 3 and we are registered with CSIW who inspect us annually. For the past two years we have passed on all standards and this year we were awarded the 'Aiming High' Quality Assurance Kite Mark by '4Children'.
