Supporting Equality and Diversity in Wales Toolkits
Supporting Equality and Diversity in Wales
A series of toolkits have been developed that take a fresh approach to equality and diversity guidance, and explore the many barriers people face in education, service and employment settings.
-
How should you challenge a racist incident in the workplace?
-
What is the correct way to describe a person’s impairment?
-
What is the disability equality duty?
These are examples of the many issues that are covered in the Racial Equality, Disability Equality and Disability Discrimination Act toolkits that have been developed by the University of Wales, Newport’s Institute of Digital Learning, on behalf of the RISE Learning Network, with the support of expert partners through the Welsh Equal funded Equinex partnership project.
The toolkits are interactive and incorporate the latest educational technologies, including expert video tutorials, ‘Bytesize Basics’ serious games and summary essentials, alongside the traditional guiding handbook approach.
The RISE network has piloted the toolkits, which have been refined, and are now available to all RISE Partners, organisations across Wales, businesses, groups, and individuals, as a free resource. The toolkits are flexible in that they provide frontline workers with an online resource that supports a personalised delivery, and allows the user to pause, stop and return to the guidance materials and, in addition, can be used to enrich traditional group face-to-face training, through blended learning approaches.
The toolkits form part of the Addressing Barriers: Enhancing Services series, and further training materials are in-hand to support Age Diversity and Homelessness Awareness, which will be available for piloting, and review, at the end of September 2007.
These new training programmes enable frontline workers to better serve their communities, through improving their knowledge of equal opportunities and empowering them to deliver an improved service, and to overcome barriers.
