Careers Wales Exam Survival Guide
Exam Results Survival Guide
-
First things first, don’t panic! Things will always seem better if you try and remain calm and focused – not always easy admittedly, but the best way to ensure you make the best decisions.
-
Speak to your teacher/college tutor – they will have got to know you during your time as a pupil and will have your best interests at heart
-
As well as your teacher, make good use of your careers adviser who may be at your school/college on the day of exam results and can tell you about all your options with the results you’ve got. Or contact your local careers centre which will be open through the summer holidays for free help and advice
-
Speak to your parents – not everyone’s first choice, but usually a wealth of useful information and support so seek their advice
-
If you were planning on going to college/university, contact them and find out what your options are – they may well still accept you or at least have an alternative course to offer.
-
Remember School, University or College is not your only options – other things to consider include:
Re-sits
Taking a year out
Work-based training
-
Most importantly, don’t make any rash decisions – be enthusiastic, flexible and remain positive – things have a way of working out however it seems at the time!
