Children With Additional (Special) Needs
The Education Department of the Council is the main source of advice and help. It provides:
-
Expert advice from its team of Educational Psychologists.
-
Advice and support to schools for children with physical disability or who have emotional or behavioural needs.
Approximately 20% of all children will have such additional needs at some stage during their time in school.
For a very special number of children with very serious difficulties the LEA will also provide additional resources. Particular help is made available for children who are looked after by foster parents.
The LEA works in partnership with parents, schools and other agencies so that all the possible, available funding and expertise can be used to ensure that all children can be helped to make good progress.
The Department believes that the provision of an effective service for children and young people with additional (special) educational needs goes to the heart of its core values of equality, inclusiveness and customer responsiveness. Inclusive schools are at the heart of effective additional needs practice.
