Stock transfer news

Check out the show homes

OVER 600 tenants have visited five show homes developed by the Council to see for themselves how homes could look following improvements that would be made if transfer goes ahead. The homes have been given a make-over to meet the Welsh Housing Quality Standard and feature modern new kitchens and bathrooms, along with new heating and insulation systems.

The show homes are open for viewing again from 11 – 15 September. A flyer is being sent to all tenants with the opening days and times of each home. If you don’t receive one call the Housing Choices Team on 0800 028 6933. Transport can be provided to any of the homes.

The homes are located at:

  • 14 Riverside Drive, Blaenavon
  • 59 Lower Ty Gwyn Road, Garndiffaith
  • 12 College Road, Penygarn
  • 1 Sirhowy Court, Thornhill
  • 301 Charston, Greenmeadow

Tenants are setting the agenda

OVER 800 tenants are now on the mailing list to receive information about theme groups run by the Independent Tenant Adviser and more than 100 tenants have either attended these groups or the conference run by the Independent Tenant Adviser.

Housing stock transfer will mean a massive repairs and improvements programmeThese tenants have seized the opportunity to say what they want from a new landlord, how it should run, the role tenants should play in running it, and what services should be like. Many other tenants have contributed their ideas through meetings at sheltered housing complexes and through phone calls to the Independent Tenant Adviser’s free phone number on 0800 919994.

The Independent Tenant Advisers have drawn these ideas together into a set of proposals to the Council and the policies for the new landlord have been drafted to reflect what tenants want.

For the first time ever, tenants are therefore firmly in the driving seat developing the shape for their potential new landlord and its services. It is tenants’ proposals and ideas that will be used to develop the policies for a new landlord that will be set out in the Offer Document sent to tenants before they are asked to vote in February 2007. If you would like more information about the draft policies now available for consultation, call the Housing Choices Team on 0800 0286933 or visit the website www.torfaen.gov.uk|
