Torfaen Talks is the Council’s free Community Newspaper which is sent to all homes in Torfaen every eight weeks

What penalties will people face if they break the law?

Individuals may be issued with a fixed penalty of £50 for smoking in no smoking premises, and the maximum fine will be up to £200 if the case goes to court.

 

The manager or person in control of any no smoking premises could be fined a fixed penalty of £200 for failing to display warning notices in no smoking premises.

 

Where a prosecution is taken, the maximum fine will be up to £1,000.

 

The manager or person in control of any no smoking premises could be fined up to £2,500 by a Court for allowing others to smoke in no smoking premises. There is no option of issuing a fixed penalty notice in these cases.

 

The offence of obstructing an officer authorised by the local authority to enforce this law carries a maximum fine of £1,000.
