Torfaen Talks is the Council’s free Community Newspaper which is sent to all homes in Torfaen every eight weeks

News in Brief

Are you under the age of 25 and a resident in Torfaen? Grants of up to £250 are available to assist and advance the education of young people in music and all forms of the arts. To find out if you are eligible get an application form along with the criteria from Victoria Walden (Trust Administrator) on 01633 628937 or email victoria.walden@torfaen.gov.uk| . The closing date is 27 April. 




World Dance Day is being celebrated in Cwmbran town centre on Saturday 28 April. ‘Moving and Grooving’ will consist of local dance groups performing an exhibition of dance followed by taster sessions. This event is organised by Torfaen Council’s Arts Development Team. 




Newly acquired hearing aid? Having difficulties adjusting? Would you like to meet others in the same situation once a month for a cup of coffee and a chat? A Hard of Hearing group meet in Blaenavon once a month in the Torfaen Voluntary Alliance office. The first meeting is at 1.30pm on Friday 30 March. New and experienced hearing aid users are welcome. A fashion show is taking place on Thursday 15 March at Pontypool Active Living Centre to raise funds for ‘Opera in the Park’. The Hat Box, Zenith and Kerry’s Collection will be presenting a selection of their fashion. Tickets are £5 and available from all participating shops, and Torfaen Council’s Arts Development Team on 01633 628937. 




Pontypool Ramblers have organised some events in March and April. Meet at Pontypool Active Living Centre at 10am on Tuesday 13 March for a six mile walk to the Folly Tower. Meet at 10am at Penylan Road car park on Thursday 29 March for a 4.5 mile walk around Henllys. Meet at Talywain RFC car park at 10am on Tuesday 10 April for a 4.5 mile walk to Graig Ddu via the old drovers road. Meet at Capel Newydd Cross Site, Llanover Road at 10am on Thursday 26 April for a five mile walk around Mynydd y Garn Fawr. 




A group has been set up to offer support to Torfaen residents who have been affected by a chest condition. "Luv your lungs" meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 2pm in The Settlement, Pontypool. Call Lynne at Torfaen Voluntary Alliance on 01495 756646.
