Hollywood Star in Pontypool
Oscar-winning actress Faye Dunaway is the star of a new movie which has been filmed in Pontypool.
She spent several days in the town centre filming scenes for Flick, a horror movie which will hopefully be released later this year. She caused a big stir and met lots of shoppers while signing autographs and having her photo taken. A shop in the town was converted into a 1950s record store and scenes were also shot in the Bread of Heaven café, the library and St James’ Church.
Councillor Bob Wellington, Leader of Torfaen Council, said: "When we heard that the producers wanted to use Pontypool town centre as a setting we gave them all the help we could. Film fans enjoy visiting landmarks where movies have been filmed so we hope it will attract people to Pontypool. It was an exciting few days for the town with so many stars on the streets along with a film crew."
In Flick, Faye Dunaway plays a 1950s detective who investigates a murder at Newbridge Memorial Hall. Fifty years later the victim is brought back to life and then tries to find his teenage sweetheart.
Other stars in the film include Liz Smith, Nana from the BBC’s Royle Family, Geoffrey Hughes, who plays Twiggy in the Royle Family, Leslie Phillips of Carry On fame, and Mark Benton who is in adverts for the Nationwide Building Society. Torfaen Council collected the names of residents who wanted to be extras in the film. Lots of local people took part in a 1950s dance scene at Newbridge Memorial Hall. Flick is being produced by Monster Films.
