Cinema and bowling alley to open in Cwmbran
Work has started on a £15 million development which will bring some great new leisure facilities to Cwmbran town centre.
It is on a site between St Davids Road, Glyndwr Rd, Cwmbran Centre for Young People and Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre. The development is expected to be open for business in October 2008 and includes an eight-screen cinema, a bowling alley, and restaurants.
Councillor Bob Wellington, Leader of Torfaen Council, said: "Cwmbran has great shopping facilities, but has lacked major private sector leisure facilities. This development marks the start of a huge regeneration programme of the town centre and is a key part of the plans to help stimulate the wider expansion and regeneration of this end of town.
"This is a major new leisure complex with bowling alley and cinema giving additional provision for young people and families and coupled with a restaurant it is just what Cwmbran needs to make it a thriving town centre as well as an exceptional shopping centre."
John Ives, Director of Mint Blue, the developers, said: "We are delighted that this leisure development is now to become a reality. The two anchor tenants are Vue Cinemas who will operate the eight screen cinema and Bowlplex, probably the largest private bowling operator in the UK, who will operate the 24 lane bowling lanes.."
