Its almost time for tenants to make their choice
In the first few weeks of January, all Torfaen tenants will receive the Council’s ‘Offer Document’ which sets out the proposals to transfer all their homes to a newly created, not-for-profit landlord called Bron Afon Community Housing.
The ‘Offer Document’ contains important information to help tenants make an informed decision and includes details about rights, rents, charges, improvements, repairs and sheltered housing.
This is the most important decision the Council has ever asked tenants to make. Tenants will also receive a DVD and quick guide to help explain the choices they will be faced with when the ballot takes place around February and March.
In the four page supplement we look at the choice facing tenants and what a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote will mean for the future of Torfaen homes.
The transfer of homes will guarantee massive investment in the fabric of homes, and the environment around homes and will help regenerate communities by creating many new job and training opportunities.
Five Show Homes will open for everyone to see the standard that homes will need to be brought up to by 2012. The Council has estimated that it will need to spend £187 million on improvements and repairs by 2012 and up to £500 million over the next 30 years. The council has £54 million, a shortfall of £133 million by 2012 alone.
Whether you’re a tenant or not, please take a look at the supplement and see for yourself what stock transfer could mean for you and future generations.
