Greenfingers in Greenmeadow

Greenmeadow primary school is creating an organic garden so pupils can participate in and enjoy kitchen gardening. Brendan McCormack, from local construction business Galboola, donated 16 tonnes of topsoil to get the Garden Club off to a good start.

The aim is to teach the children the advantages of growing their own food, the benefits to their health, and the different ways that food is produced.

Councillor Bob Wellington, Leader of Torfaen Council, said: “I want children to learn about the benefits of eating freshly grown food. Children attending the club have taken the first steps to develop an organic garden, and are cultivating an area of land in the school grounds.

“Over the next few months the club plans to turn the children’s designs and ideas into reality and create a garden of their choice. Pupils will grow a wide range of vegetables, fruit and flowers to make the learning experience as varied as possible.”
