Woodlands Field Group have offered courses in Carpentry, Lawnmower maintenance, Plumbing, Plastering and safe use of small machinery.
We have linked in with West Mon Comp. school, Coleg Gwent construction dept.and Garn Sychan Partnership.
76 people have participated in these courses either by taster days or signing up for long term tutoring.
1200 hours have been calculated from volunteers.
Volunteers have travelled from Trevethin, Wainfelin, Tranch, Talywain, Pontnewynydd, Pontymoile and Griffithstown.
POD 2 currently operating for 25 hours per week (tutoring time).
Individuals are now participating in work experience where tutors offer the pupils, weekend opportunities with them on live jobs.
POD 2 has already paid for itself in six months, and showed there is a need for this facility in the community.
Visits of teachers from West Mon School, Career Wales representatives and other numerous outside agencies have all reiterated my sentiments.
