What is CSV TORFAEN YOUTH PATHWAYS VOLUNTEERING?
CSV Torfaen Youth Pathways Volunteering is part of national charity CSV (Community Service Volunteers) and individually matches Support Volunteers with young people who are going through a time of difficulty in their lives. Support Volunteers are mentors to these young people, helping them to play an active part in their community.
As a Support Volunteer you will:
Help the person you are buddied with to volunteer, by supporting them in their volunteering activity Encourage them to look at training and educational options Be a friend Encourage the young person you are supporting to reach their full potential
WHAT TIME COMMITMENT IS INVOLVED?
Day? Evening? Weekend? ... It's flexible.
If you can make a regular commitment of a few hours or more a week, we'll have a placement to suit you. Anyone can be a Support Volunteer, you don't need qualifications or experience; we just need two references and your permission for a police/criminal record check.
Remember, it's your commitment that is the key to success.
WHAT CAN I DO?
The activities that you will be involved with will be very much dependent on the young person that you are matched to, but will include:
-
Providing support and encouragement to the person you are mentoring, so that they feel confident enough to become involved in volunteering activities
-
Be a positive role model, helping to raise aspirations and levels of achievement
-
Be a buddy to a teenager who is having problems settling at school, and help them reintegrate back into mainstream education
-
Increase self confidence and self esteem in others by helping them achieve their potential
-
Help school leavers cope with the transition from education into employment or training
And much more.
WHERE WILL I VOLUNTEER?
We will match you according to your interests, skills and experience with a young person that needs support and help. We will also take into account what you want to get out of being a volunteer and what time commitment you can make.
WHAT DO I GET IN RETURN?
As a volunteer you will get:
