Scope
SDC is here to promote and assist disabled people to achieve equality through creating opportunities to help enhance their basic skills, knowledge and resources through computer aided training, education and communication.
The Cwmbran Skills Development Centre - Scope is situated in the Torfaen County Borough on the outskirts of Cwmbran New Town approximately 20 miles north of Cardiff. Clients come from the five unitary authorities which make up the county of Gwent. The centre is included on the boroughs preferred list of service providers.
Clients are referred to the service by Social Services departments (Torfaen, Newport, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent)
Cwmbran SDC have in excess of 21 high performance computers as part of the Karten CTEC Centre providing ICT training, internet access, and support for disabled users to access IT equipment.
Learning packages, including distance learning packages for disabled people, which lead to accreditation of pre-vocational study in support of core numeracy and literacy, and communication skills are constantly being developed.
Personal development programmes including lifelong learning, goal setting and career development are prime elements of the service as is the continual assessment and awareness of support measures and resources available to enable people to move into employment.
