Services Offered
Free information and advice
The Disability Advice Project provides free advice to disabled people, their families and carers. All our volunteers either have the experience of being a disabled person or of caring for a disabled person. This innate knowledge combined with a continuous training programmes created a committed group of individuals with a considerable expertise in all disability issues but particularly welfare rights and access issues.
We may be able to solve your problems based on our direct experience, our acquired knowledge or from the vast amount of information available to us. If we cannot solve your problem we can signpost you to another organisation who will have the answers.
Free form filling
The Disability Advice Project can assist you with all forms concerned with welfare rights. Some forms can be quite daunting and complex. Such forms include Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance that make up the majority of our form filling work. On rare occasions some types of forms require further expert help, but we can advise on this matter.
Free representation
Since April 1999, we have represented over 250 people at disability benefit tribunals, with only 20% being unsuccessful. Our caseworkers are therefore very experienced at guiding a customer through the appeals process following the rejection of a claim or the loss of a benefit payment.
This process may include some or all of the following:
-
Meeting the client and explaining their alternatives;
-
Acquire medical evidence for a review of the case;
-
Request a review; request an independent tribunal (complete a GL24 form);
-
Acquire medical evidence for the tribunal;
-
Assess the tribunal submission;
-
Write a submission to the tribunal;
-
Pre-tribunal meeting with customer to ensure they are fully informed;
-
Represent customer at the tribunal.
