Review of Brettenby Hannah Jones

Germany 2007 (BRETTEN)

By Hannah Jones

Not only me but also I think that everyone who went on the trip to Germany this summer had an experience that they will never forget. There were so many highlights from our trip but it is hard to describe in words how great a time we had.

I suppose one of the main highlights were the people that we met, both leaders and teenagers, and despite us all being from different cultures we were all really the same – just young people enjoying a great experience.

We visited the town of Bretten, which was quaint and had a very long but hilarious trek up a mountain, where we had to partner up with someone from a different country. After the trek we spent the rest of the day relaxing at an open-air pool and in the evening had a barbeque in a cabin by a forest. The Sun was setting and it was a great night, which was followed by a ghost walk through a haunted forest, which left some of us laughing, others crying!

We also spent time in the beautiful city of Heidelberg, visited the fairytale castle there and then hit the shops! The next day we left early fro Europa theme park, we were felling very sorry adventurous so headed straight for Silverstar, the biggest rollercoaster in Europe, some of us have never screamed so loudly or so much. !!

As is always the way, the last day was the best. We had to put together a performance in relation to our country, so of course we sang songs by Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey. That last night was amazing, everyone had really bonded by then and we had a blast at the disco afterwards.

We were in awe of the French, their dancing was incredible. We loved every minute of our last night and a smile never left our faces.

Many of us were in tears the next day, as we had to leave for home. It was all very emotional but I am so glad that we all made wonderful new friends but our group have formed a close bond too. The whole trip was amazing and we are all counting down the days until the next youth festival in Portugal and hoping that we all get the opportunity to go to repeat this brilliant experience.
