Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice
This childrens hospice offers respite care, palliative care and end of life care to families throughout Wales with a child or children suffering from life limiting illnesses, this means the children will not live to reach adulthood. The care does not end when a child dies; families are carde for as long as they feel the need.
Located in Sully, Ty Hafan opened its doors in January 1999, offering this very specialised service to the children of Wales and their families free of charge, at a cost of £2.5 million pounds a year.
By supporting Pontypool Community Council at this event you could make a difference to every child and their familiy who use Ty Hafan.

Stroke Rehabilitation Unit Panteg Hospital
Cedar Ward is Torfaen Borough’s Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, based on the County Hospital site, at Griffithstown.
Strokes are the third most common cause of death within the UK but the main cause of permanent disability to adults.
This unit was the first specialist unit to treat stroke patients within Gwent. It was started by the late Dr Brian Calcraft and Sister Glenys Watkins, who was the Manager of the County Hospital at the time.
The aims of the unit are to deliver care, to patients that are specific to their needs, within the locality of their homes. The patients are assessed by the medical , nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social work teams. Other specialist teams can also be requested to assess patients if their condition needs it. We ask the patients and their families to be involved with the rehabilitation programme, to enhance their progress.
Stroke prevention and rehabilitation has significantly progressed during the last decade. However, we still have to strive to improve the detection and prevention of stroke disease, along with providing even better rehabilitation programmes.
