Eisteddfod
Inter-School Eisteddfod
Pontypool Community Council Inter - Schools Eisteddfod has been running since 1999. It is run over three days, one for the Infant Schools, one for the Junior Schools and one for the Secondary Schools. Every year it has gone from strength to strength and this year saw over 1500 pupils participate over the three days from most of the Schools in the Pontypool area.
All the recitation and choral items are in welsh and there is an abundance of talent in the instrumental, dance and art and craft sections.
The Eisteddfod is now a prominent event for all the schools and enhances the Welsh heritage. Every single category on each day has a trophy awarded and these have been sponsored by many local businesses, prominent political figures including Pontypool's Assembly Member and its Member of Parliament. In respect of the Secondary schools the overall winning school is presented with the Dame Gwyneth Jones Cup.
Extract from local papers have stated the following:
"Superb performances from young people"
"Did not know there was so much musical talent in Pontypool"
"Excellent organisation of a massive event"
Pontypool Community Council Eisteddfod has been that successful that this year it has become a case study for good practice in the University of Gloucestershire - A Good Practice Guide for Community Councils in Wales
