Community Allotments
Just over a year ago the Perry Court and Rhymney Court allotments in Thornhill were underused due to vandalism. However, after securing Tidy Towns funding to carryout fencing, new pathways, ground rotavation, and purchase over 100 tons of compost they are now almost completely utilised and are in such great demand that the Thornhill Allotment Group were able to hold their first event.
The event was held at the allotments at Monnow Court, Thornhill on Sunday 19th April and was organised by Thornhill Allotment Group and supported by the Communities First Team. The aim of the event was to welcome all members new and old in an informal setting with a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Staff from The Body Shop Cwmbran also joined the event volunteering their time to help allotment holders to dig over their plots to prepare them for the planting season ahead.
Christine Blaney allotment holder was joined by Jade Delve from the Body Shop to help dig her plot, Christine said that 'the event and the help from the volunteers had been a real moral boost'.
The day was such a success that the group are planning something similar in the near future. They also thanked the staff from the Body Shop who have pledged to return and offer their support at the next event.
Due to the success of Thornhill Allotment Group there are now only 3 vacant plots available. anyone interested should contact Thornhill Allotment Group C/o Helen/Josh Communities First Team 01633 647427
