Released Friday 14th August by Torfaen County Borough Council:
***Update on Greenmeadow Community Farm***
There’s some bad news and plenty of good news!
The bad news first.
After the initial closure of the farm during March following restrictions on visitor attractions due to Covid-19, it has been decided the farm will now remain shut until February 2021.
The farm normally closes for Christmas and throughout January but given the additional measures required to maintain a safe experience for all visitors, it means we would be unable to open all of the farms attractions and provide the same hands-on, fun experience for our young visitors.
The farm has also had a landslide which would limit the route of the popular tractor rides!
The good news (finally).
The landslide is being fixed and while they’ve been shut the farm team been giving the farm animals lots of love and attention during your absence.
They’re also using the time to carry out essential maintenance and make sure the farm opens with a bang in February.
The farm also plan to make wider improvements to the farm buildings such as the stables and create safer pathways and visitor areas.
The really big news is that the council are proposing to make a capital investment into the farm which will improve the farm’s attractiveness and help sustain the farm into the future.
This is where you come in. If this investment is approved by council in September, we hope to share several options on where the money can be spent and we’ll want your views on what you would like to see most down on the farm.
It’s visitors that keep the farm alive, so whatever’s invested must make it a more popular place to visit.
Thank you for all your ongoing support for the farm and please continue to visit the farm’s Facebook page to stay up to date with life on the farm and updates on investment.
