Whatever the weather, so long as you come suitably suited and booted, it’s the perfect environment to explore and connect with nature. Marvel as your baby gets so much pleasure from the natural environment. We all know that sometimes the simple act of getting outside with our baby or toddler can have a positive effect on their mood (and ours)! There is a universal feeling we get when we put ourselves outside and into the elements. We feel more open and connected to our world, and our babies feel the same way...we all embrace this at the farm every day and would like to share it with you too! The theme will change and vary depending on the season.
Baby Ballet - we are delighted to welcome Miss Holly of Baby Ballet - a fun, award-winning pre-school dance concept for girls and boys from 6 months to 6 years. Babyballet dance classes allow babies, toddlers and young children to enjoy the physical and social benefits of ballet, song and dance in a safe, caring, positive and informal environment. Preschool children particularly learn through physical and sensory experiences, but learning the art of dance helps them also develop a wider knowledge, skill, and understanding. The health aspects are obvious to see, but through dance, children develop enhanced physical, emotional and social development. (Spaces limited, please book in shop on arrival)
Baby Sensory - introduce your baby to a world of sensory exploration, where the two of you can relax, have fun and share in each other’s delight...every element has been meticulously designed with your baby’s development in mind. Created by Dr Lin Day, it’s the result of a lifetime’s work and study and testament to her overriding passion to inspire and educate children and support their parents.
A magical world, full of glowing balls, light shows, puppets, bubbles, rainbows, petals, massage, signing and songs. Imagination is a vital part of childhood. And together you can dance in the snow or dive under the waves, trek through a rainforest and sing the shanties of sea pirates.
Baby Singalong these sessions are the brain child of local Mum Liz who began by wanting to raise funds for the amazing St. David's Hospice Care following the sad loss of her Mum back in 2012. St. David's had looked after Liz' Mum so well that she wanted to do something to repay that love and kindness so she began Baby Singalong, singing groups for babies and carers...Liz enjoyed the sessions so much that she decided to ditch the day job and follow her heart. One day, one of the Mums participating in a session said how much her Dad (who had dementia and lived in a care home) would love it and without hesitation, Liz began planning a group trip to the home!! In that instant, dementia friendly sessions were born! Sadly due to the onset of coronavirus, Liz was told that she could not run her sessions in nursing homes for the foreseeable future :-( However...every cloud has a silver lining and we are DELIGHTED that this brings the opportunity for Baby Singalong to debut at the Farm in our Baby & Toddler Tuesday sessions...join in the fun online and we look forward to welcoming Liz in person as soon as we can get back through the gates!!

Come along to this Practical Parenting session and learn more.

There are so many benefits to Baby Massage...Touch is a primary human need; skin-to-skin contact is proven to raise Oxytocin levels (AKA “the bonding hormone”) in both parent and baby and massage can help to develop growth physically, emotionally and mentally. Dealing with Separation Anxiety (Practical Parenting) Separation anxiety is a normal emotional stage of development that starts when babies begin to understand that things and people exist even when they're not present – something called "object permanence."
At certain stages, most babies or toddlers will show true anxiety and be upset at the prospect – or reality – of being separated from a parent. If you think about separation anxiety in evolutionary terms, it makes sense: A defenseless baby would naturally get upset at being separated from the person who protects and cares for him. Come along to this Practical Parenting session if you would like to learn some handy tips on how to best deal with separation anxiety for you and your baby.

It can be a bit of a minefield…What is a healthy balanced diet? How to introduce new foods...many babies on hitting the toddler stage become more reluctant to eat particular foods or try anything new. This is perfectly normal and stems from caveman times when we didn’t try things just in case they were unsafe. Come along to this Practical Parenting session and join Ruth, Torfaen's Pre-school Health and Sustainability Officer who will be showing you how to engage with your little one and make healthy eating fun, establishing great habits for life! They say on average parents spend £800 on nappies in a 2.5 year period and £100 on cloth over the same period, disposable nappies contain chemicals which are in close contact to your baby's skin, landfill issues with disposables and so much more! What is more, Torfaen Council can put £30 towards your natural nappies!!. Pop along and chat top Maria and her team to find out more!
Rhyme Time – the wonderful team from Torfaen Libraries join us to tell stories and sing songs. Children who listen to stories learn lots of new words and sentences. Sing & Sign - Developed with the help of Speech and Language experts back in 2001, the "Sing and Sign" programme has since taught tens of thousands of parents across the UK how to sign with their babies and encourage amazing early communication. As a part of typical development before speech is well established, babies naturally use a combination of gestures and sounds to help their parents understand them. For example they may point, shake their heads, clap their hands and wave "bye-bye". Now is a good time to introduce some extra gestures to help your baby communicate. It's easy to do and your baby will really enjoy it! Why not try milk, more, change nappy, or tired? Baby signing is wonderfully rewarding and fantastic fun. You will be amazed by what your baby is capable of telling you before being able to talk! Sing and Sign's unique approach combines action songs, props, pictures and toys in musical activites designed to stimulate speech and language development. This is your perfect opportunity to give it ago and find out about where you can access regular local classes!
Stories in Motion - developed and run by two Cwmbran Mums, Stories in Motion is a dance, movement and physical activity programme based around exciting stories! This programme has been specifically designed to help build vital physical literacy skills...what is physical literacy? "In short, physical literacy can be defined as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, understanding and knowledge to maintain physical activity at an individually appropriate level, throughout life” Dr. Margaret Whitehead, The Concept of Physical Literacy, 2001 and although that sounds all academic, in essence, Physical Literacy is about moving the body and having fun! So why not come along and try it out? (must book on arrival)
Tiny Dancers - we are delighted to welcome Jessica of JW School of Dance who believes that 'Dance is for Everyone!' She is here to introduce the joy of dance to your little ones...due to the nature of this activity it is more suited to toddlers and those that are standing. Toddler Yoga - intended for toddlers and babies who are on the move! Using songs and rhymes alongside plenty of movement and stretching, this yoga set is designed to support the transition from babyhood to more developed forms of self-expression through movement. As babies make this transition to independence, physical contact with their parents is often diminished yet remains very important. Smart toddler yoga promotes strength, flexibility and balance. Relaxation and energetic activity are contrasted and balanced providing a foundation for a healthy lifestyle.
Toddlers – Establishing Boundaries (Practical Parenting) - As well as your love and respect, your toddler needs consistency. If you're consistent, it will help them to learn about how to behave.
