Indian Head Massage

Head massage or 'champissage' is commonly practiced throughout India and Pakistan. The techniques have been handed down through generations with women using the treatment on their partners and children and so it is learnt at an early age.

Its main purpose originally was to promote shiny, healthy hair. Asian women today still use Coconut oil and head massage for this purpose. But it was also discovered that the use of massage resulted in a feeling of relaxation and equilibrium. It was noted that certain conditions such as headaches and insomnia were quickly resolved after treatment.

The main focus is on the head but this is preceded by working on the upper back, shoulders and neck and then concluded by massaging drainage and pressure points on the face. The face is the main electrical energy centre of the body. Working on the various pressure points on the face and head can stimulate and activate natural chemicals in the brain, which bring about relaxation and sleep.
