A distressing memory or thought causes a disruption or short circuit in the body's energy system,(the meridian system) which in turn causes a negative emotion. Emotional Freedom Techniques works by identifying the emotion and tapping on the 14 major meridian points of the body to release the negative feeling of that emotion.
The practitioner is not a doctor, counsellor or psychologist. The tapping is done by the client on themselves (unless of course this is painful or difficult).
There is no need to divulge any deep or intimate details to the practitioner unless you wish to, and once you have learnt how to use these simple techniques, they are yours to use for you and your family.
