Dig It Landscapes

Grounds maintenance and soft landscape construction for domestic and retail customers.

Hints & Tips

Winter work in the garden.

There are many general tasks that are best done this time of year.

Deciduous hedges that are overgrown can be pruned anytime during winter.

Provided theres no frost in the ground, shrubs can still be planted.

Clear moss from paths and patios or they can become dangerously slippery.

Repair fences and other structures while climbing plants are dormant, or fit a new fence.

Dig heavy ground during dry weather and leave it rough for the frost to break down, It'll also expose pests for the birds to eat.  This is a good idea if you wish to lay new turf in the new year.

Plant new tree's and shrubs if the weather and ground is flavourable.

You can have winter colour with your hanging baskets and window boxes, fill with a mass of winter flowering pansies you can under plant them with bulbs such as dwarf narcissi or rockery tulips.  They will being colour and cheer in late winter.

Ponds,  keep the water as clean as possible by regularly removing any fallen leaves and clear away all dead top growth in late autumn.  In winter, toxic gases harmfull to fish can build up if the pond is frozen over for several days.  Never bash the ice to break it ( the shock waves counld kill the fish)  just set a ketle or pan of boilding water on the it until it has melted through.

If you have need of our services on any of the above, please call us.

Compost Bins

We hope you are all composting in one way or other, not only can it improve the soil but it helps with all the waste, all our green waste goes to be composted and even at home we use one daily for all kitchen / office waste of cause they can look unsightly, so hide them with a screen planted near by with a climmbing plant, one that is also fragrant works wonders, Try the common honeysuckle like the Lonicera. "The common one's are always best."
