Reflexology
What is Reflexology ?
It is an ancient, well-established complementary therapy that works by applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet and sometimes on the hands, which helps to heal the whole person. It is a simple, safe technique which aims to help the body to balance its internal systems by stimulating its own healing energy. It is a very therapeutic, relaxing experience and is often used as a preventative therapy to help the body maintain optimum health
Who can it help ?
Commonly it has been known to help those who suffer from conditions such as back pain, migraine, infertility, arthritis, sleep disorders, hormonal imbalances, sports injuries and digestive disorders. However research now shows that a major reason given by people who use reflexology is stress relief.
When we get stressed, the body undergoes a variety of physical changes necessary to deal with any perceived threats or traumas, whether this is caused by personal problems, grief, long hours at work, illness, financial problems, insomnia and so on. Sometimes, though it us very difficult for the body to return back to a more normal state when the source of the stress subsides. Reflexology is a wonderful antidote to stress as it helps the body to return to its natural state of equilibrium.
What happens when I go for treatment ?
On your first visit, we will have a preliminary talk about your present and past health as well as your overall lifestyle. This is followed by the treatment, during which I will initially massage your feet, then apply gentle pressure to specific points on your feet which correspond to the organs and structures of the body. The application and effect of the therapy is unique to each person. The treatment sessions last for approximately one hour.
How many treatments will I need ?
For specific conditions, we normally recommend a course of 6 - 8 sessions which can be followed up by maintenance treatments on a monthly or fortnightly basis, depending upon the wishes of the individual. For stress, it is up to the person's requirements as a state of deep relaxation will usually be achieved during the first session. Although to maintain this state, it is better to come along regularly.
How do I know that my therapist is properly trained ?
I successfully qualified as a Reflexologist from an accredited professional course for one year at same time as completing a course in Anatomy and Physiology. I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists which aims to establish high standards of practice and client care. As a member of this Association, I am bound by its Codes of Practice and Ethics.
